Last updated: 11 September 2026

This policy explains what personal data The Energy Upgrade collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what rights you have over it.

Who we are

The Energy Upgrade is a website operated by Jardine MC Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 11509028, with its registered office at Lynch Farm, The Lynch, Kensworth, Bedfordshire, LU6 3QZ, United Kingdom. You can contact us about anything in this policy at [email protected].

Jardine MC Limited is the data controller for personal data collected through this website. If you have any questions about this policy or about how we handle your data, contact us at [email protected].

What we collect

Information you give us. If you submit an enquiry through a quote form or contact form, we collect the details you provide. Depending on the form, that may include your name, email address, telephone number, postcode or full address, property type, current heating system, and any other details you choose to share about your property or your plans.

Information collected automatically. When you visit the site we may collect your IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, the pages you view, how long you spend on them, and the site or search that referred you. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies. See our Cookie Policy for detail on which cookies we set and how to control them.

We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. We do not collect special category data such as health information, and you should not include it in an enquiry.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

To pass your enquiry to installers. When you submit a quote enquiry, we share your details with one or more installation companies so they can contact you with a quote. Our lawful basis is your consent, given when you submit the form. You can withdraw that consent at any time by contacting us, although we cannot recall details already passed to an installer.

To respond to you directly. If you contact us with a question rather than a quote request, we use your details to reply. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests, specifically our interest in responding to people who contact us.

To understand how the site is used. We use analytics to see which pages are read, where visitors come from, and where the site is failing people. Our lawful basis is your consent, given through the cookie banner.

To meet our legal obligations. We may retain records where tax, accounting or other law requires it. Our lawful basis is legal obligation.

Who we share it with

Installation companies. This is the important one. If you submit a quote enquiry, your details are passed to installers operating in your area so they can contact you. Those companies become independent data controllers for your data once they receive it, which means their own privacy policies govern what they do with it from that point. We select the installers we work with, but we do not control how they store or use your information.

We will tell you on the form how many installers your enquiry may be passed to. We do not sell your details to unrelated third parties, list brokers, or anyone outside the specific purpose you submitted the enquiry for.

Service providers. We use third parties to run the site, including our web host, email provider, form provider and analytics provider. These act as processors on our instructions.

Legal disclosure. We may disclose data where required by law, court order, or to establish or defend legal claims.

International transfers

Our hosting is in the United Kingdom. Some of our service providers may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on UK adequacy regulations or on the International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum to ensure your data receives an equivalent standard of protection.

How long we keep it

Enquiry data is retained for 24 months from the date of submission, so that we can deal with any query or complaint about how the enquiry was handled, after which it is deleted.

General correspondence is retained for as long as needed to deal with the matter and for a reasonable period afterwards. Analytics data is retained according to the settings of our analytics provider, currently 14 months.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • have inaccurate data corrected
  • have your data erased in certain circumstances
  • restrict how we process your data in certain circumstances
  • object to processing carried out on the basis of legitimate interests
  • receive your data in a portable format, where processing is based on consent and carried out by automated means
  • withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing carried out before you withdrew it

To exercise any of these, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within one month. There is no fee, although we may charge a reasonable fee or refuse to act if a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive.

Note that where your data has already been passed to an installer, you will need to contact that installer directly to exercise your rights against them.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK supervisory authority for data protection.

Automated decision making

We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. Where changes are significant, we will make that clear on the site.
